Tentoria Cerebellorum: An Overview
Definition
Tentoria cerebellorum is the second-largest dural fold after the falx cerebri. It is located in the axial plane and lies between the occipital lobe of the brain and the cerebellum.
Structure and Function
Superiorly, the tentoria cerebellorum is attached to the tentorium cerebelli, and inferiorly, it extends to the posterior edge of the foramen magnum. Its primary function is to separate the occipital lobe from the cerebellum and protect the posterior cranial fossa.
Variations and Abnormalities
Anteriorly, variations in the tentoria cerebellorum may include deficiencies or fenestrations in the falx. Abnormalities of the falx are often associated with the tentoria cerebellorum. Its posterior part blends with another dural fold called the tentorium cerebelli, which provides additional protection for the cerebellum.
